Learned a lot about the rivers and cities of the US midwest and southwest last fall as James filled in this map a little bit each week to go along with our reading of Tree in the Trail. Got pretty good at remembering the state capitals. I never knew the Arkansas and Missouri Rivers journeyed the way that they do.

I found your blog from your post on ambleside yahoo group. 🙂 Great job on that map!!
James says, “Thank you!” His mom was all nervous and particular when he started filling in the map at the beginning of the term and then she learned to relax and let it be. For that, we are all very thankful. His mom thinks he did a great job too.
This map work is fantastic! Great Work! Can you share were you happened to get this map from? I would like to do this with our children. Thank you.

We purchased the guide along with the maps. I think they call these black-line maps? It’s an outline of the area and you fill it in with whatever info that you want. The guides are useful in that she gives you ideas of mapping to do with each chapter or group of chapters. There’s other reading and drawing and researching suggestions. We’ve done some of the drawing, but most of the rest is above the 2nd grade level.
