I heard them! I heard them! My first birds of spring. I can’t see them, but I hear them greeting the sun. I haven’t heard any birdsong for months and months except the occasional Canada geese and Jack’s phone when he has a message. Yay! My birds are back. Must get the feeder back up. Had to take it down when the rough winter winds kept beating it against my window.
I can just hear the immortal Barney Fife singing….
Welcome sweet springtime,
We greet thee in song,
Mummers of gladness,
Fall on the ear.Voices long hushed,
Now hear full notes, prolong,
Echoing far and near.
I saw my first robin last Thursday. I love those guys! I hope to do some birdwatching this spring during the migration – I guess that’s starting now? I’ll have to check. By the way, Cornell University has free bird-counting kits available. Let me know if you need the link and I’ll dig it up.
Hopefully you’ll get to see your birds soon. We are thrilled at our home. Our birds have been around for at least a month now. Last week we arose early every morning just to bird watch. The melody was beautiful.
Hey Traci,
I read your blog entry about your bird watching and listening. I love birds and birdsong. I’ve missed them all winter. It’s snowing again here and I hear no singing outside 🙁 We have several “birding hotspots” in this state and I’m thinking one of those needs to be our first big field trip for the spring. In fact, I’m headed across the hall to inform my husband of this very thing.
Enjoy the music today!
